Carol the Cat, Starneslord, The Giddygeeker, and fellow Charlotte Geek Danny Seavers arrived for DragonCon – but didn’t want a whole week to go by without talking about the Game of Thrones finale, Twin Peaks, the new Nightwing series, and The Tick and how it saved our city! So we sat down right before heading out back in to the biggest convention of our year – to talk to you about it. Here you go!

donna scott productions, the Harvey B. Gantt Center and Charlotte Art League come together for Eat The Runt, a comedy by Avery Crozier. Providing a completely novel and participatory theatre experience for Charlotte audiences, Eat the Runt requires that all eight actors in the cast learn every role and audition for the audience before each performance. The audience will cast the show using their smartphones and watch as the actors they cast deftly play out one of the over 40,000 possible casting combinations.
The plot of Eat the Runt follows Merritt, a grants manager candidate, through a series of increasingly bizarre interviews for a position at an esteemed art museum. Eat the Runt focuses a sharply comedic eye on the themes of political correctness, office politics, sexual harassment, religious persuasions, and societal and cultural norms related to gender and race. The result is a unique, hilarious and sometimes surprising performance that will never be the same show twice.

Benjamin Burton is a science fiction and fantasy fan and avid gamer who brings together his passions of geekery and volunteering to better the greater Charlotte fandom and the world in which it exists. His favorite fandoms include: Tolkien, Marvel, gaming, and horror movies. He is the Volunteer Coordinator for the 2017 Geek Gala.

Episode 165! We talked about the last 2 weeks news and views with Emily Kramer of Emily Kramer Design. Emily also gave us a sneak peek in the world of Game of Thrones costuming as well as her upcoming appearance at this year’s Muggles Market and her new opportunity to go to New York Fashion Week!
In Emily’s own words:
At age 11, Emily was Laura Ingalls Wilder in the backyard plays of her suburban Chicago neighborhood. Except she wasn’t just an actress, she also made the costumes for everyone on the cast. They were about what you’d expect from an 11-year-old who learned to sew from her grandmother.
Since then, Emily has had many years of professional costuming & fashion design experience. She has costumed for the Royal Court at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival and for historical re-enactors of many eras, a Twig the Fairy DVD, short film, and theater.
Having shown regular modern fashion collections on Chicago and Charlotte runways, Emily keeps her flair for the dramatic, leaning toward red carpet and formal gowns. Her passion for recycling and eco-friendliness got her involved with designing dresses out of recycled materials. She designed dresses from leftover flyers from Opera Carolina to help promote The Barber of Seville, Pagliacci, Rigoletto (opening Feb 2018) and their Opera Recycles program. She is headed to New York Fashion Week in September with Opera Carolina to show her recycled pieces on the runway as part of the #operarecycles program.
